Hello my dear friends, how are you? I hope you are all in good health and well-being. It hasn't been long since I posted drawing lessons for the basics of anime drawing, so today we will learn together how to draw an anime face from the side, step by step. Many people complain about not being able to do that, so I decided to simplify things, so let's get started.
My online store has everything you need as artists
First step
First, we draw a circle in order to determine the size of the head so that we can easily draw an anime face from the side. It does not have to be perfect; it is enough to define the initial shape.

Step two
Now we draw the first straight line on the left side (if the character is looking to the left), followed by four horizontal lines to indicate:
- The location of the front.
- Two lines for the eyes.
- Chin line.
Then draw a horizontal line from the opposite side of the direction the eyes are looking, and from this we determine:
- Ear line.

Step three
Here we draw a slanted line, and it depends on the features of the anime character you are drawing, through which you will determine the distance between the tip of the nose and the face.
I advise you to draw this line, as it will make it easier for you to draw the nose when drawing an anime face from the side.

Step four
Using green or any other color, we quickly draw the neck and body, just to define the drawing a little.

Step five
- We continue drawing an anime face from the side and draw a line from the top, which is the forehead. We draw it either straight or semi-curved, and both are correct.
- Then we draw a slight indentation inwards, which is where the eye is located.
- Next, we draw a line extending forward where the surface of the nose will be.

Step six
- Now we draw below the nose.
- Below, we add the chin, pointing it upwards.

Step seven
Under the nose, we leave some space (a hollow inwards), and then we draw the upper lips. This is my method, and I have drawn it more clearly for you on the left of the picture.

Step eight
Here we go directly to drawing the lower lips, and they are slightly inward, which makes it easier for us to draw an anime face from the side.

Step nine
From the features of the anime character we draw, it seems that he is upset, so we will draw the mouth downwards, or according to the psychological state of the character.

Step ten
This is the most important step for me, when we draw a person from the side, to be honest with you, so pay attention! And you will see me repeating this during the lesson on drawing an anime face from the side.
It is the drawing of the space separating the head and the neck, as they are not directly connected, but there is a space between them, and this is what I have tried to explain here.
So try as much as possible to draw it continuously, as it is the dividing line between a perfect drawing and a weak one.

Step eleven
Here I have added some explanatory text about the drawing, which will help us design an anime face from the side, so that it is easier for you to understand:
- The eye socket is angled inwards: this is essential when drawing an anime character from the side.
- The forward-pointing nose: What distinguishes anime characters from others is the nose that is pulled forward, and the pointed tip.
- A slight curve at the chin: Sometimes the line is straight, but it is common for the chin to curve slightly inwards, and this is due to the personality's features.
- The neck: As I explained previously, it is the place that separates the head from the neck.

A closer look
This is a picture that is closer to a drawing of the nose. I realize that it is not difficult, but I have always found it difficult in the past to draw the nose and mouth from the side, and I wished someone would explain it to me.
Therefore, I will highlight some details that may seem obvious, but are very important.
The shape of the anime nose and lips from the side, I divided it for you as you can see, piece by piece, so that you can practice on it later.

Step Twelve
- Here we will draw the hair, and the character has two long bangs, and the bangs in front of us are wider to look at and clearer to the camera.
- As for the distant fringe, it is less visible, and the face hides it somewhat.
- The circle in yellow represents the base of the hair at the front, from which the rest of the hair strands will extend backwards. They all originate from one point, covering the entire head.

Step Thirteen
Drawing the pupil is very easy. All we have to do is draw a half-circle. It is a mistake to draw a full circle when the anime character is staring from the side.
How to draw an anime face from the side with extreme accuracy

Inking
All the steps for drawing an anime face from the side are now complete, and it's time for the inking stage. This is how the boy will look.

True or False 1
It is a mistake to draw the mouth straight; this will not give your drawing any smoothness, but rather the character will look rough.
Instead, we draw two lines, one horizontal, and from it extends a slanted line downwards, or upwards if it is smiling!.

True or False 2
In the world of anime, the upper lips are forward-facing and sharp; if we draw them over each other, the shape will be unnatural.

True or False 3
Here we see how the chin is slightly hollow inwards, and not straight.

True or False 4
This is a drawing from one of my manga that I published. Look how I paid attention to the chin drawing; the face on the right looks more natural, while the drawing on the left is undoubtedly a mistake.
Since the head appears to be directly attached to the neck, how will the character speak later?.

A closer look
Here is a scene from one of my manga of a character I drew, in which I applied the technique of drawing an anime face from the side, and I followed the same steps as this lesson, with explanatory writings, so that you understand the intention.

Final result
This is the final result of drawing an anime face from the side. Follow the same steps. Here you can do the coloring and add backgrounds.

Don't forget to practice. Drawing and designing an anime face from the side is one of the most important lessons that skilled anime artists should benefit from. And now I leave you in God's care.
