How to make an anime girl's eyes blink in Toon Boom Harmony

Welcome back, everyone, to a new blog post after a long absence (ミ ̄ー ̄ミ), where we'll be discussing how to move the eyelid, or eye, of an anime character, and make it blink (close and open), in a very easy way, as shown in the video, using the Toon Boom Harmony Premium app.

About the program: It is a program dedicated to two-dimensional animation, such as anime and cartoons. It has several features, such as bones that make it easier for you to move characters at super speed, and multiple brushes for more creative and aesthetic drawings. It is worth mentioning that this is the only program I use for animation, and I do not use other programs such as Flash.

Now, regarding the eye, we know that eyelid movement, such as closing and opening, comes only from the upper eyelid, just like a real eye. It is similar in the world of anime, so we will only move the upper eyelid, from top to bottom, while keeping the lower part still, and without touching or moving the pupils of the eyes.

Since I drew a complete character from an image found on the internet, I drew the hand, body, eye, and hair, each in a separate layer, so that I could move the eye alone, without the rest. This means that the entire body is in one layer, and the eye is in a separate layer.

The method is as follows:

  • Copy the eye to a new page
  • I erased the colors from it "so that I could easily see its shadow."“
  • Grasp the upper eyelid and pull it downwards, slightly adjusting the edges.
  • Repeat the process, but after two frames or two pages.
  • Continue lowering the eyelid until the eye is completely closed.
  • coloring the eyes with favorite colors
  • Copy and paste the pages close together, until we get the number of times we want the eye to blink.

Of course, this is not the only method of animation, as it relies more on frame by frame, i.e., like traditional animation.

And we're done! It was very easy, and it took me about 15 minutes. Of course, it was quick, and I couldn't do my best because of the rush, as I'm really neglecting my channel. But I'll be back with new, more polished lessons. ◕3◕
